And He taught Adam the names all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful."

He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed."

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees.[1] He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.

1- The proper name of Satan, who was not an angel but from the jinn, as stated in 18:50 Done in obedience to AllŒh, this prostration was one of respect, not worship.

And We said, "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."

Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words,[1] and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of Repentance,[2] the Merciful.

1- AllŒh taught Adam words of repentance that would be acceptable to Him.
2- Literally, He who perpetually returns, i.e., reminding and enabling His servant to repent from sins and then forgiving him. Thus, He is also the constant motivator of the repentance He accepts.

سوره: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Indeed, AllŒh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ÔImrŒn over the worlds

سوره: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger [i.e., Jesus], so register us among the witnesses [to truth]."

And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons, in truth, when they both made an offering [to AllŒh], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], "I will surely kill you." Said [the former], "Indeed, AllŒh only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

And We have certainly created you, [O mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees.[1] He was not of those who prostrated.

1- Satan. See footnote to 2:34.

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness that is best. That is from the signs of AllŒh that perhaps they will remember.

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing[1] to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.

1- The garments of Paradise.

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid,[1] and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.

1- Literally, "place of prostration," meaning any place that a Muslim prays upon the earth. The term may also refer specifically to a mosque.

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses [i.e., scriptures and laws], then whoever fears AllŒh and reforms there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

سوره: AL‑A‘RĀF

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam from their loins their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees.[1] He said, "Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?"

1- See footnote to 2:34.

And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from [i.e., disobeyed] the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.

Those were the ones upon whom AllŒh bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel [i.e., Jacob], and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.[1]

1- To resist temptation.

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees;[1] he refused.

1- See footnote to 2:34.

So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.

Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"

And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy

I had no knowledge of the exalted assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [the creation of Adam].
