Sura: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Aya : 100

O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.

Sura: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Aya : 149

O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.

Sura: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Aya : 116

And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of AllŒh. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but misjudging.[1]

1- Out of ignorance and blind imitation.

Sura: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Aya : 121

And do not eat of that upon which the name of AllŒh has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].[1]

1- i.e., by your obedience to them obedience being the basis of worship.

Sura: AL‑KAHF

Aya : 28

And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His face [i.e., acceptance]. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.[1]

1- Or "in excess," exceeding the limits of AllŒh.

Sura: AL‑FURQĀN

Aya : 52

So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with it [i.e., the QurÕŒn] a great striving.

Sura: AL‑‘ANKABŪT

Aya : 8

And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,[1] do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

1- i.e., no knowledge of its divinity. There can be no knowledge about something which is non-existent or untrue.

Sura: LUQMĀN

Aya : 15

But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,[1] do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

1- See footnote to 29:8.

Sura: AL‑AḤZĀB

Aya : 66

The Day their faces will be turned about in the Fire, they will say, "How we wish we had obeyed AllŒh and obeyed the Messenger."

Sura: AL‑AḤZĀB

Aya : 67

And they will say, "Our Lord, indeed we obeyed our masters and our dignitaries,[1] and they led us astray from the [right] way.

1- Also interpreted to mean "our noble ones and our elders [i.e., distinguished scholars]."

Sura: AZ-ZUKHRUF

Aya : 54

So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of AllŒh].

Sura: AL‑QALAM

Aya : 8

Then do not obey the deniers.

Sura: AL‑QALAM

Aya : 10

And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer

Sura: AL‑INSĀN

Aya : 24

So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].

Sura: AL‑‘ALAQ

Aya : 19

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to AllŒh].
